it happened last saturday at HSBC Brasil hall and the venue was packed! and it was one of the best concerts from the latest times...

not for the concert itself but also because i could photograph the whole concert by request of the band.

it was a bless!!!

i can say the only problem when it happens is that we generate too much material... TOO MUCH!!! Not that it is a problem for me to spend hours looking at Zakk photos during the edition process. Honestly, you know when you spend too much time looking at, for instance, Angelina Jolie and it hurts so bad to see so much beauty? hehehehe... that's it!!!

Anyway, i would like to share some photos of the concert here. There were some "bad shots" which looked cool for me... The good ones had another destination.

One of the most beautiful voices for me, David Coverdale, is about to come to Brazil for the Whitesnake and Judas Priest Tour.

It is amazing because some icons in the music are Rock and Roll figures. So is David Coverdale to me. I look at him and I can see the 70's printed on his face and I just love that! I picture those bell bottom pants, which after some years were replaced by those very tight jeans. Those shirts and that long hair. I really love it!!! And I really wish i had lived in those times. Everything was so different. For sure I would not be writing here, but I would be much more out in the fields probably photographing David Coverdale hehehehe.

The first oportunity I had to photograph his concert was here in 2008 at Credicard Hall. It was such a dream come true because he and Whitesnake were part of my life soundtrack during the 80's.

After that I had the great opportunity to photograph him in Sweden (SRF2008) and in Holland (ArrowRock2008).

This year it was another dream come true to photograph him in Sweden again (SRF2011).

I can't wait for them to arrive here in September for another dose.

I promised to come back and follow up with the news about my work.... but i cant organize my thoughts right now. Too much going on and it seems that the editing work never ends.
I can be put to photograph the whole day, everyday, but when it gets to the computer work, i get so stressed that it seems I cant think about other things.

However, my mind keeps spinning around and i keep thinking i dont know what is going on in the world. So much evilness around. I swear what i have been thinking the most is how life is going by fast. And I cant understand how people spend their time planning to be evil. We have already passed the half of 2011 and in a blink of the eye we will be again wishing happy 2012. I get frustrated sometimes because I build my agenda for the week and I cant accomplish everything that I plan. I wake up in the morning and suddenly is night. I go to bed and wow!!! Time to wake up!!! It feels the night goes by faster than the day.

And when I wake up in the morning and start to watch the news, I hear about the lady who poisoned the food at the kids public school. I hear about the father who set up his daughter's murder because he did not want to pay the pension. I hear about the bunch of politics doing the most terrible things in this big country.

But what scares me most is how people think nowadays. For instance, this week I started to be harrassed on the web by some f'up people. I did not give too much attention to that (also because I did not have time to and I did not want to give attention to that). However, I got shocked because I never knew about her existence before that. Why I am talking about this right now? Well, because I think if people have nothing to do in life, go volunteer. So many people in need of help, go do something good! The world is already cruel and we gotta be strong to live in it. I dont really understand how people waste their time like that! Go volunteer for the victims in Japan, Haiti, Norway, wherever... Just dont come bother me. I am really a nice person but I have no time for that. I dont feel sorry for myself, Im not gonna feel sorry for any psycho that wants to distract me from what i think is really important and worth of worrying. I am so sorry.

After many hours of waiting, Zakk Wylde arrived at the radio station.

We were anxious and also in doubt if he was going to make it and finally yes!! He made it!!!

Since late afternoon i was with my camera around my neck waiting for the "big guy" to arrive. And for all the thing i had heard previously, I wanted to be ready to shoot him very quickly before they make me stop. I dont know why I had that "wrong" thought, maybe for all the things we hear in the media or from people around....

He was late because he came straight from Argentina and instead of being taken to KissFM Radio Station, he was taken to the hotel. I was at the studio when finally he arrived. He looked too serious, and the room became all quiet.

I felt the need to do something so I went to him and said I wanted to show him something. I grabbed the big print I had made from the BLS concert in Sweden Rock Festival and asked him if he could autograph it because I am collecting autographed material from people I photograph onstage and I have the opportunity to meet afterwards. He asked if he could keep it and I said I would be happy if he did it because I had printed 2 copies in case he wanted.

He liked it a lot!! And I really like when that happens.

Then the interview started and he talked about his previous band, about his period with Ozzy, about BLS and he answered some questions made by the audience.

He was very relaxed making jokes and laughing a lot.

It was funny because I had such a different impression of him, and at last I realized he is such a nice guy!

Lot of people was outside waiting to take photos with him and he was really receptive!

While whoever was with him was trying to take him away, he would always come back when someone asked him "one more photo here, Zakk". On the top of that, he also asked for his bag of picks and started to give to everyone. And the others repeating "let's go! let's go! let's go!" but it seems he wanted to stay there!!!

Even in the parking lot, he stopped to give hands, hug, take photos and give picks to fans who could not have gone upstairs.

It was a great surprise to know Zakk Wylde is so great like that!

I know i havent written for a while but everyday i think i should post something about what has been going on around me here.

Everything has been so busy and crazy and for some reason I have been getting too tired (physically) very soon. Maybe i should listen more to my parents when they say i am not 18 anymore.
I play with them saying that im suffering from abstinence... heheheh... travelling abstinence!!

I need to do lots of photo editing, but as soon as possible I will post news on the "Circo Chinês", "10o. Aniversario da KissFM", and I really want to talk about the return of the 80's brazilian bands, which has amazed me.

Com a turne anterior de seu terceiro CD solo, "Intimidade Entre Estranhos" lançado em 2008 pela Warner Music, Frejat fez mais de 100 shows pelo Brasil.

Na fase do Barão Vermelho, Frejat, nas guitarras, era parceiro de Cazuza nas composições. Cazuza ficou nos vocais até 1985, quando saiu da banda para iniciar sua carreira solo. Hehehe.... Have I told you about Rotterdam?
Well, I was very anxious to go to Rotterdam and visit one of the largest Ports in the world. Besides loving the water, the sea, the ocean.... I love ships and boats. And I love the greatness!

Perhaps because I was a bit disappointed with Antwerpen, I could not wait to get to Rotterdam. Also, I would be going back to Holland and soon Amsterdam and then finally home. Now I can say I should have enjoyed 100 times more because from here, I wish I was still there.

As soon as I left the hotel, I took the tram back to the station. The trip took about 1h and soon I got in Rotterdam Centraal station.
As usual, I stopped at the information desk with the Hotel address and I was told where to go and it was pretty close to the station, about 5 minutes walking.
Honestly, those 5 minutes seemed to be longer for the weight on my back. Although I took one of the cameras and one of the lenses out of my backpack, it was still heavy.

It was a sunny day and the temperature was very pleasant. And suddenly I could see the hotel.
My first request at the reception was for a smoking room and YES!!! They had smoking rooms available!!! I love when I can smoke in the hotel room. It is a pain in the ass when I have to go on the streets to smoke.

Got in the room, and the first thing after some "personal stuff", lay down and smoke a cigarette! Then, out in the fields to know what was waiting for me.

I got some intructions and went to the port. I took the last boat which left at 5pm and took about 1hour to sail around the ships. I learned about the Brasilian ships that bring oranges to there.
I was amazed by the greatness of the port and all the structure.
I have been to a boat trip around the port in Santos, Brasil and I already loved it. Imagine the Rotterdam on which is much much bigger.
And it is all automated, you hardly see people around.

Afterwards I took the tram and went to an event that was happening in town, it was a fest in a park joining music, theater and arts. It was a very delightful afternoon, awesome temperature and the sun shining very bright.

I really loved Rotterdam and I was sorry i was going to stay for only one night. It is definetely somewhere to stay longer, as well as Berlin.

In the evening I went to do some night photography of the bridges. I confess that even though I was in Holland, I got a little concerned to walk around my camera at that time of night because everywhere was like a desert. In the European summer, it starts to get really dark after 10pm and I was walking around till about 12am. I had no tripod so I had to count on my sturdyness.
I think I got some good images.

I ran to the station to take the subway back to the hotel before my day-ticket for public tranportation expired.

Wow!!!! I am already back in Brazil, back to the routine and trying to solve some small issues that came up while I was away and I was here thinking that I didnt have a chance to follow up with my trip, which I wanted to share.
To begin with, again, the primary reason of my trip used to be the Sweden Rock Festival. Then I decided to extend a little bit, since i was already on the other side of the ocean, to take the opportunity to know different places and bring back new images to my personal archive.

With the years I got to know some very special people and for this reason, they are now a reason of my trip too. Not only the fantastic Festival, but to meet my special friends have become a very special moment in my life! Now I can say with all my forces that I would not give up this moment for nothing! Nothing at all!

Before I left, I had in mind that I wanted to travel around Germany, specially Berlin. I love that place!
After a while, still in Brasil, some relatives were going to Lebanon, from where my family is from and where I always wanted to go, but for some local reasons I never had courage enough to go. If I did not know myself, I could have taken the risk, but knowing myself fair enough I am sure I would not be able to walk around Middle East without my professional photo equipment. Now, imagine after the death of Bin Laden, I could be caught by those fanatics.
So I gave up and one week before leaving, I had to buy the EurailPass and define the countries I would travel to. Certainly I would need to have Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg), Denmark and Sweden in the pass, so I chose Germany, which was my innitial plan.
The pass I chose allowed me to travel by train during 5 days (not consecutive) around the countries above.

After the 4 day wild Festival, I went on my personal trip.
I was really in need of this break, I was really stressed out and after crashing my car inside my own parking lot and finding out I got an ulcer in my stomach, I really wanted to get away.
I can say this trip brought me lots of new experiences, lots of surprises, brought up many truths about things and situations I was in, and I am really glad to have found out where I was really going into. And I can say I was going into a wrong path.

As everybody knows, nothing is always 100% perfect. I can say I had awesome moments and not so awesome ones. There were many times I was completely happy, others I felt really lonely. However, I enjoy the lonely moments too because they make me reflect about my life and myself.
There were times I just wanted to "throw" myself somewhere and never come back to Sao Paulo. Others I could not wait to come back home. It is not easy to live on a suitcase.

Honestly, in the latest days i could not wait to come back home, but as soon as I got in the gate at the airport, all I wanted was to stay. The trip was terrible! I always ask the window seat because usually i have a red wine and fall asleep during the whole flight. But for some reason I did not feel like wine and I could not sleep at all. One nap here, other there... and that was it.

I was really anxious to see my dogs. I knew as soon as I got in the house they would get crazy to see me and they would jump on me, and call for my attention. I was looking forward to that.

Now I am back to the routine. Still trying to solve those small issues I mentioned before and I am already stressed out. I am already looking forward to my next vacation, as if it was my own "Carnaval", right on the day after, the next year's Carnaval starts to be planned.

Let's see what happens in the meantime!

antwerpen part 2

Following my latest post, I have to say here that I was fortunate!
I was a little bit concerned about getting lost in the tram. Here what happens is, the trams are numbered but they go both directions and we have to take the right direction. I had some help from a girl who was also in the tram stop and I got where I had to.

I quickly found the hotel. It was more like a bed and breakfast and honestly i love it much more than those big hotels.
As I stepped in, i heard a lady's voice saying "you must be Patricia". I smiled and I said yes. I sighed and said "Thank God! I am glad to be here!". She was a really nice lady called Lilian and the hotel name, Industrial. A very good choice for whoever wants to spend some time in Antwerpen. Not expensive, with breakfast included and free internet in the room. That is a good point since those big hotels usually charge at least 10 euros for 24h internet.
One of the hotels I was staying offered free internet in the reception, but they block the gmail. Hehehe... So smart of them, heheheh. Then they charged about 9 euros for 2 hours and 10 euros for 24 hours. Weird!... Oh yes, and 7 euros for the breakfast!!

Anyway!
I went to my room. I needed to be on a horizontal position for a while and I fast fell asleep for some time.
Then I went out for a walk. There were some events in town. There was a Techno music festival, of which I ran away. There was also a parade. They call a parade something like a big park with food & drink tents, game tents, and things like rollercoasters, caroussels, and so on.

It was great! I spent some time there then i went on for a walk to find out about the town. I was not feeling like photographing churches, museums landmarks anymore. I was attracted to some shop windows.

I soon went back to the hotel and went to bed early because i would take an early train to Rotterdam.

I am right here at an indian miscelaneous shop where i also found internet service very close to the station.

i am in town since 2:30 or so and i have not got to the hotel yet.

This was the first place in almost a month that i really felt scared. As soon as i left the station some tramp on a lonely street by the station kinda looked weird and started to follow me and i am really glad a guy appeared and i asked in English if i could follow him because i was scared. Probably he got scared too with what i say or maybe he did not understand English. Anyway he backed up but thankfully i was far from that other weird guy, by then.

after walking for about 2km with my heavy backpack, i found the Ambassador Suites Antwerpen, where i had booked one night. There was no reception, no one for an information and i waited until someone showed up. It was weird, they left my key and the papers of my reservation on a counter for me to do a self check in. They say as it is not a hotel but a suite building, there was no doorman, nobody on weekends. Wooh!!! right there i felt something not good.

Anyway I went upstairs and it was a very nice place at first sight. But when I started to check around, there was a huge trash in the kitchen, the beds where undone and the washroom was used, as well as the towels.

Thousands of things came on my mind and the only thing I was sure was that for any money in this whole world I would stay there.

The funny thing, as I left the elevator on the 8th floor, which would be my floor, someone in some other unit opened the door to check me out, but it was really fast and i had no reaction to that.

They offerred free internet so I quickly got online to contact them to say I was not staying and get my refund. Also I checked if there was somewhere I could go.

So I came back to the station and went to the same guy at the info desk and he told me the next hotel i booked was out of town. Oh boy, how i wanted to leave this place...

The info desk guy was so nice. He looked for another place for me but I havent got there yet.

I hope it will be a decent and safe place.

Today, Saturday 25, I left the hotel in Gent, Belgium. Before I was in Brugge, a pretty city on the first day but on the second I noticed it is such a turistic place. Definetely it is a place to stay only one night. On the other hand, I was not expecting much of Gent, and surprisingly I loved the town. I would have stayed there for two nights.
As I left the hotel I was hit by such a bad feeling of loneliness. Thankfully it went away as the cold weather, the thin rain and the wind struck me
I miss some people so bad. I miss my friends I met in the beginning of my trip and I would love to see them again before I get myself into the plane to Brasil. I wish I could get all the ones I love together and have them all around me.
I can't say what the future holds for mebut I hope I will see them again next year. I confess that before I came to Sweden Rock Festival I felt it was going to be my "farewell" coverage of the festival. But honestly, while I was there, I realized that I really love it! And I also confess that the "farewell" feeling had to do with some personal/emotional issues that for some reason seems to not have survived a "vacation" and for some reasont that I really dont understand has changed directions. I have been oftenly telling myself "Yes, life is like a box of chocolate".
I really miss my friends. Those ones who love me and value me for what I am and don't ask anything in return. I know I have many failures. Probably more failures than qualities, but I believe the latter are precious and valuable and rare that can compensate the failures. I apologize if I am wrong, I am only human with no intentions of hurting or causing any harm. If I do or have done I also apologize even though I believe they let themselves hurt for not accepting me for who I am.
Anyway....
For many times I asked myself what the hell I am doing here yet, all alone. And what comes on my mind as an answer is the fact that I am in my everlasting search of peace. Besides, I learn a lot by encountering places and people with different cultures and behaviour towards things. I learn or try to learn to be more patient and to tolerate whatever goes against what I am used to. Well, a couple of times I lost my patience but I believe it had to do with being tired. And I mean physically tired. My back is sore. My backpack is ridiculously heavy.
I wish I could have someone here I could give a huge hug. Oh-oh, there is no one around so I am going outside for a cigarette before I hop in the train to Antwerpen.

I haven't had a chance to report about Sweden Rock Festival during the event. Things where really crazy and I had a pretty tight schedule running from one to the other stage.
Besides, Where I was staying had no internet connection, so there was nothing I could do.

I can say that I love Sweden Rock Festival. However this year things were different from the past years for me. Some things where really great, others not so much. So let me skip the "not so much" ones.
I can say that everyone who really knows me, knows that I go to concerts to work. I have no fun at all if I am not photographing. And this year, for reasons that I was explained just after I arrived, I would not be able to get access to the photopit. Right on Tuesday I went to the Festival area to get my credentials because on Wednesday I was going to leave the hotel in Kristianstad and move to Morron.

The awesome part of the journey started when on the first day of the festival I left the hotel and met my friend who picked me up to move to Morron.
It is amazing how a true and sincere friendship survives to anything. Like those friendship from first grade or high school that you can stay for years and years not even talking to the friend and when you meet,
it seems it was yesterday when you last saw them.
It is almost like Christmas Time, when you meet those distant relatives once a year. I say almost because there is a difference that really makes the difference: in this type of friendship, you choose the "relative" from the heart.

I have to say that I really love all of this. I am not going to specify what "this" is, I prefer to keep it inside myself.

I was amazed because while I was walking around, some photographers, some security and even people from the shops recognized me from the previous years. The most amazing was the guy from a shop, where I bought something last year, he mentioned he remembered me and my friend.
And I was going to buy a ring this time and he said if I did not have money I could pay him next year. uh? yes!!! that is called trust!!! amazing!!!

I met my friends from KingsDragon "meeting point", well, there was no meeting point this year, but I am really glad I had a chance to meet them!

i love to meet good people. Good people in the heart, mind and soul. That is what makes life worthwhile for me. However, it is kind of painful and always too sad to leave when all of this finishes. I get too attached to people, and considering myself a piece of the world, I dont want to go back to Sao Paulo when I go away. I cant explain, I just dont want to go back to Sao Paulo. I miss my parents, I miss my dogs to death. I miss so much in there, but I just dont feel like going back.

Before talking about the festival itself, I will continue till where I am right now.

This year the time at the Festival flew away. In the last day I was the whole day with the impression that it didnt seemed the last. Usually everybody is wrecked but looking around I could see people so vivid.
But it was coming to the end.
And it did!

The 20th edition of Sweden Rock Festival is now over and I was originally going back to Amsterdam, and travel around until I meet my friend guitarist and his band for a photoshoot. Some swedish friends convinced me to go to Stockholm. I have decided to change highways and I am now in the train to Stockholm.

I took the train at the station in Solvesborg and stopped at Hassleholm and changed trains.
Honestly, I dont even know what time I am going to arrive in Stockholm. I am just going! And I just recalled Forrest Gump when he says in the movie: "When I had to go, I went..."

I was paying attention to people during the train trip and what called my attention was the fact that I had just spent 4 days in a wild festival where everybody gets crazy and happy and talkative, and today, one day after, people look so sad. I dont mean sad because the festival is over. I mean just sad! They dont talk to each other, they barely move. I have no idea what that is, but it really called my attention.

About myself, this time I was very careful packing my stuff to come here because I really wanted to travel light. I dont know what happened, my luggage is so heavy.
Maybe I am getting old, I dont know. But I have been thinking about my train trips. Probably this will be the last one. I can take one train here and there, but all the trip by train.

I can say I am really tired.

Anyway, anyhow... I am missing someone!!!! I am really missing someone so bad!!!!

Day1

I woke up today (07'June) at 5 and something am with those big german immigration policemen asking for our passports. I was sleepy, didnt say a word,

just handed them my documents.

He was looking and looking and looking..... and looking! I did not worry, just waited. Then he showed to the other policeman, who also looked and looked

and looked more again and gave it back to me.

Then he found out I spoke English and asked for my passport again. I was wondering, am I beeing looked for? hehehe....

Then he asked me where I was going to, and I answered with my sweetest voice, heheheh: "Sweden". I was ready to show him the Sweden Festival papers

if he asked me what I was going to do there! hehehe... and show him my rock and roll hands \m/.... I am glad he didnt ask, imagine if he got offended.

Anyway, I think their way to deal with us is just to express power, the same that happens when we try to enter USA. Their immigration officers are

intimidating. But a suggestion, if you have nothing to hide, just relax and wait. They are doing their job and to be tough is part of it.

I was a little frustrated because last night I wanted to have some coffee along with something to eat but there was no restaurant in the train.

I love restaurants in trains. I can sit, have a coffee, look at the window and see myself passing by the world outside! Since the beginning of the this

train trip, we passed by part of Holland, crossed Germany and now we are in Denmark. Isn't it great? Besides, in a train trip, you can see all of this

through the window. I just love it!

And after all of those immigration issues, I went after some coffee. The train tripulant told me I could keep going to the next car which was

the restaurant. So I got ready for my breakfast, took my notebook and my video camera and here I am.

Also, there is a cool german man in the train. We were outside at the same time for a smoke and we were trying to communicate. The funny thing is

I dont speak German, which I would love to, I really love the language! And he does not speak English. But I think we understood just a little bit we were

saying, heheheh. This is something else I love in all of this!

Honestly, I can't wait to arrive at the hotel in Kristianstad and take a long hot shower! And change clothes!

It is yet 7:12am here and we are supposed to arrive in Copenhagen at 10am. From there, another train to Kristianstad. So, hang in there, there is still sort

of a long way.

Im now in the train to Kristianstad. It might take 2 hours to get there, I can say "yes, I am really tired". My equipment bag is very heavy and it is the

first time I use this one. I can put the notebook in it, but the problem is, it gets too heavy!

It is so nice when I get in places and I reconized them. For instance, yesterday when I got in the Amsterdam Centraal Station,

I myself found my way to the locker area. As I was walking I thought to myself "oh I remember this, or that..." Today, when I got at the

Copenhagen Train Station I felt exactly the same thing as yesterday.

Well, I might stop now, I am almost falling asleep and I cant miss my stop, hehehehe....

My trip has already started!

I got this morning (06'June) in Amsterdam. As soon as I opened my eyes, still in the airplane, I looked at the window and it was raining.

We had just landed and getting ready to leave the airplane. Yes, I could not stay inside that airplane anymore. I needed to get outta there.

After getting my suitcase from the baggage caroussel, my next step was to the train ticket counter to reserve the nightrain for tonight.

It was part of the plan since I need to be in Copenhagen tomorrow and from there take the train to Kristianstad. I had a choice to go by airplane,

but I really love train trips. Hopefully, I got my reservation done.

I was really concerned because the 7 o clock train was my only option to be in time in Copenhagen to go on with the journey to the festival.

Then I headed myself to the Amsterdam Centraal Station, from where the train to Copenhagen leaves from.

The next step after getting there, was the baggage locker inside the train station. Every station here in Europe (or almost all) have lockers so we,

travellers, can get our heavy suitcases safe in the train station and spend few hours around town if we are not going to stay overnight.

I had to wait a little while because all the lockers for big heavy suitcases were taken.

Step 3. I am sorry, I needed to smoke!!! I am really sorry but i needed to.

Oh yes, then I got really ready for a walk. I would have to be back at the station at about 6pm to take the train at 7:01pm.

I met with Marco Antonio and we went for lunch at an argentinian restaurant. I ordered the "menu", which came with salad, potatoes, and a choice of steak,
chicken or ribs for 11 euros. I went for the ribs. Also I had two small draft beers.
Well, time to go back to the train station!
Amazingly, I am already in the train in a 6-person cabin. The train started the route in Amsterdam, so the train was empty. I got my spot,
and fell asleep.

A noise corean who is sharing the cabin woke me up.
Now he is settled down but there is someone else snoring really hard. Heheheheheh....
I think I will get out of the cabin for a while. Wait until the next stop where I can leave the train for a smoke.

Alice Cooper.... 2011

Today, June 2nd 2011, a very busy day and so much happened that I almost missed one of the concerts I was most expecting: Alice Cooper.

Since the morning I had so much to do. The afternoon got busier and I dont need to say that I did not accomplish half of the thing I was supposed to.

Time is flying and on Sunday I am travelling to Sweden and I am not really ready for it yet!

Anyway, I left the studio around 7:20pm on my way to the venue Credicard Hall.
It was such a huge traffic and I started to get worried and nervous. It took me about one hour to drive th.rough one street until I get to the tunnel then the bridge to access the freeway. I was kind of desperate. Speciall because besides doing the work for KissFM Radio Station, I was doing my first job to a News Photo Agency and I could not miss the concert.
The accreditation would be from 8 to 9pm and it was past 8, I was stuck in traffic.

Well it could not be different since in the way there was a broken bus. Then a car crash.... Ops, another car crash. Then after some minutes driving, another car crash. Wow, I never saw so many at "almost" once.

I finally got to the venue. There was a huge line around the building and people were yet trying to get in.
The desperation did not end because I was still there in a huge line of cars to reach the parking lot. It was almost 9:30pm and I had to run.

Well well well.... God is great!!! I asked so much, when I got to the accreditation area, they were still there and I got my press bracelet and the photo sticker!!!
As I was on my way to the photo pit, I missed my phone! I forgot my phone somewhere! I went back to the accreditation area and it was there!

I am glad the concert got delayed so I had enough time to slow down and get calm again.

This time we were allowed to photograph 4 songs from the pit. That is so good when the usual are 3 and many times 2.... well, sometimes only 1.
At those moments, a single song makes a big difference.

The pit was very crowded and very difficult to move around. I was lucky I got a good spot and Alice Cooper was moving around a lot, so I did not feel the need to move around so I stayed there!
I think I had a great result!

As usual I dont know yet which were the 4 first songs, but I watched the whole concert. I thought it was pretty much similar to the last one in 2007. The set list seemed the same or almost the same to me.
But it is no problem for me, I love Alice Cooper and his theatral concert is always awesome. The venue was packed and I dont remember seeing so many tall people together! I tried to "steal" some photos after the 4 ones, but it was really difficult!

Anyway, i got some!

The concert ended about 12am and i headed home. Happy and glad that I did not miss the concert!

"Poison running through my veins..." (Alice Cooper)

The highest moment of this week for me, at this moment, will be on Thursday, 02 of April.
We are going to have here the Alice Cooper concert. From Detroit, Vincent Damon Furnier has changed his name to Alice Cooper, which was the name of the band he played before starting his solo career. Alice, or Vincent, has been here a couple of times, however I had the chance to photograph him only at the last time he came.
It was an amazing concert, he is a great showman and his show is mixed with theater with horror and humor scenes. His goal is to shock and provoque the public.

Personally, I love his music and I love him as an artist. Filled with emotion and passion and intensity, my favorite songs are Poison and Bed of Nails.

I am going to take a break at Rock'n'Roll here to talk about a break i need to take at my life here.

No, not my life, but my life HERE where i am.

I am really in need of some travelling. For some events that have happened here I can say that finnancially it is not the right time for me to go, but I am not going to give up my "vacation time" since i have been waiting for it forever.

Yes, since 2008 I have been taking a break at this time of year and i can associate it to "My Carnival". When it comes to the end I already start to plan the next year's one. I am talking about a Rock Festival that happens in Sweden every year for about 20 years, Sweden Rock Festival. It happens in a park in Solvesborg, and it is a huge event, so much organized and so much enjoyable to work at. Differently from here, the press people have more freedom to work. Well, I said I was going to take a break at work, as it can be seen, all in my life is related to my work.

However, i need to start changing it, because it has been causing me too much stress.

I want to say here that I love to travel, and I wish I could get a work which could take me all over the world to photograph.

I am going to share here some photography I produced at places I have been.

This photo was taken in Paris, last year, where I went for vacation after working at Sweden Rock Festival 2010. I had such a great time in Paris.

This photo was taken in Moscow, 2009, I was so afraid to be there with my equipment because everybody was warning me that i could get robbed. Well, being from Sao Paulo, I never know the dimension of the danger in somewhere in Europe, honestly.

This photo was taken in St Petersburg, 2009, a city that made me cry for having a piece of art everywhere. It is an amazing place.

The three photos above were taken in Patagonia, 2004. I was the first time I went camping and we did the bivac (?) is that the right word? Whatever. We had a great time. I joined a trekking group and I was always behind for the photography! The group accepted really well. No Stress. It is a place I want to go back.

This photo was taken in Berlin, 2008. Oh I love Berlin. I really want to go back there this year after Sweden Rock Festival 2011.

This photo was taken at London, right at Picadilly Circus. It was a great trip, but I was staying very far from the center and usually I got lost on my way back to the house.

This photo was taken in Coventry, England. It is a city known by an antique church which was destroyed but they kept whatever remained of it. It does not work as a church anymore, but they built an edification attached making it the church again.

This photo was taken in Warsaw, Poland 2009. I really love this photo. Not only for the beautiful photo but for what it represents. This place was totally destroyed in time of war. Actually Warsaw was about 95% destroyed and today it is a wonderful clean organized and civilized city. I used to think that my country does not have half of many problems European countries had in the past, and our Government can't get to fix whatever is wrong here.

This photo was taken in Zurich, Switzerland 2008. When I look at this photo I remember that I flew from Sao Paulo to Copenhagen for the Sweden Festival, but prior to that I would photograph Status Quo in a city close to Zurich. I was aware i would take a 15h train to get to that city, but ok. The only problem was that the train track had a problem and the trip got 10 hours delayed.

But fortunately I could make very good shots from Status Quo.

Last weekend we had Asia concert here in Sao Paulo.
I really had to be there but I am facing a situation here that shows how many non professionals "run" or kind of "run" the music industry here. In 2008 I covered a concert for a magazine, I mean, I was a press member and was there to promote the concert with an article on the magazine I was representing. What I mean here is that the press role is to publicize whatever happened and my role is to photograph for the article that is being done.
Well, some days after that concert in 2008, I was unpolitely and agressively contacted by the producer, who was demanding that I delivered a CD with high resolution photos for his archive. They say they wouldnt do anything with those photos "and bla bla bla" (terms on the message, which i thought very disrespectful) That got me so baffled that I couldn't even answer the email because I knew I would be rude. So i was postponing my reply for whenever I got relaxed about it.

I kept on receiving rude emails and i can remember the young lady's words (by the way, I have them on an email) asking me "who i thought i was to charge for my work". Anyway, i thought the best thing I could do was ignore that. Till the day I was forwarded this producer's message saying that he was not going to let me work in his concerts if I did not give him those photos. In his mind he thinks that if the press people are there to work is because he is letting them. Also, he thinks he deserves the material for free. Does it mean that I need to "pay a comission" to work? Holy, these guys fill their a** with money in these concerts, they could get the money they earn selling at least 3 or 4 tickets and pay a professional to work for them. What would represent to them 3 or 4 tickets compared to thousands that they sell at a concert?

I know that there are people who may read this and go running to him to gossip. But i dont care. I feel the need to speak up! Specially because I am aware he's been talking trash about me. He's even told that we had agreed on me giving him the photos, which I swear to all the things and people i love in this world I did not agree. We did not even mentioned that possibility.

The funny thing is that before he started to produce concerts we were friends. YES we were friends. We used to coment about other producers who used to do exactly the same thing he is doing to me and we used to share the same opinion: that is an absurd. Some time later he is doing exactly the same thing. Is he a trusting person? Not to me!

I know that he has been damaging my work and my reputation since 2008. And i think if i went to court i could change this situation. But i dont think it is the best thing to do in an environment which I could be named S.O.B. And you know what? I am not.

So I am going to let it be. I was thinking about it these days and I got a very good feeling about it. He has been giving too much importance to me by doing these things and I thank him very much for making me feel important. I did not really know I was this big of a deal to give him this headache. I am also aware that he has already argued with others about me just because he did not want to let me in.

I was really concerned about this situation for my work and job. But you know what? I am the one here who can lay my head on my pillow at night and have a good sleep.
And this is what really matters to me, specially at my age.

I just hope people start to open their eyes and percieve who is there doing a serious work and who is there just fooling around.

I don't think I have much more to say about it, but my wishes of great success to this poor spirit greedy guy. Oh, and to the young lady who accompanies him too.

For 65 years "Fundação Dorina Nowill Para Cegos" works hard for the social inclusion of vision disabled people in the society.

Some of their activities are transcriptions of books, magazines, newspapers and any type of printed media into Braille, recordings of audio books and they are freely distributed to more than 1,400 schools, libraries and related organizations.

"Fundação Dorina" has also played an important role in the inclusion of their clients in the labor market.

The upcoming will be the first course in Brazil for visual disabled people who are interested in working in the perfume industry.

It is a free course with all the support from a French company, to develop the ability to select and evaluate fragrancies. The program includes 6months of course in a class and 6months of internship in cosmetic companies and many of them are already in the program to offer the internship for the students.

It is an amazing work!

Ozzy Osbourne in Concert

*Ozzy was so happy when he got on stage that I could even hear he saying "wow" when he saw the crowd.*

It was April 2nd and I was getting ready to go to Ozzy Osbourne concert at Arena Anhembi.

Checking list of equipment for about 3 times, :) , and also, for the black clouds I could see, rain coats for me and for the equipment and cases all handy.

Got at the Arena and had to pay 50 to park my car ON THE STREETS about 200m from the gate i had to get through, yes, no safety guarantee, but I had no choice.

As I was leaving the car, the rain! A heavy rain! I had to wait a bit cause the walk was going to be long under the rain.

When I finally got at the venue, Sepultura, the opening band, had already started but i got to click them a little bit.

Then I went to the press room to get ready for Ozzy.

Time came and we were taken to the photopit. It took a while until the concert started and I was pretty shaky. It is not very easy to photograph your only idol. The one who years ago had inspired me to be what I am today.

I prayed to God asking to calm me down to make a good work, and you know, God is Father, he listens to us.

At the moment at the allowed songs, I never pay attention because I focus on my work, and until the next day, i did not know which was the 1st and 2nd songs, but I surely knew the 3rd, Mr. Crowley, and I had to listen on my way out of the Arena.

It was a lot frustrating, we from the press had to leave the venue. Or leave the equipment somewhere and come back.

But where would I leave my equipment? Insane.

Then the rain again and I went my way home.

"Só vou parar quando morrer", este é Ozzy Osbourne, na coletiva de imprensa que ocorreu no Hotel Tivoli/Mofarrej, São Paulo, na véspera do show na capital paulistana.

Depois de uma breve sessão de fotos em área reservada para a imprensa, Ozzy se reuniu com repórteres e cinegrafistas para um bate-papo descontraído e divertido.

Falou um pouco de sua vida pessoal, e declarou que não pretende se aposentar, vai continuar até o fim!

Embora tenha vindo para divulgar seu novo álbum "Scream", Ozzy diz que também fará uma coletânea de clássicos do Black Sabbath e de sua carreira solo.

Vale agora aguardar o show que acontece na Arena Anhembi neste sábado 02 de abrilpara assistir, admirar e enloquecer com este homem e artista único que até hoje apaixona.

Na saída do show só se ouvia uma palavra: "showzaço"!!!!

A Via Funchal abrigou mais um grande show na noite de quarta feira, 30 de março de 2011.
Foi a vez de Journey, banda norte americana atualmente com Arnel Pineda nos vocais.
Conta também com os originais Ross Valory no baixo e Neal Schonmostrar na guitarra, além do tecladista Jonathan Cain, que está na banda desde 1980 e do baterista Deen Castronovo, desde 1998.

Isso mesmo, foi uma grande apresentação, graças à harmonia, sincronia e sintonia entre todos da banda, e uma energia indescritível de Pineda correndo de um lado para o outro, dando seus saltos e a todo momento tentando interagir com o público.
Por várias vezes, desceu do palco se aproximando dos felizardos colados na grade de proteção levando nessas horas os seguranças a loucura.

Os primeiros acordes do tecladista Jonathan Cain anunciaram o início do espetáculo com o grande hit "Separate Ways", seguido de outros sucessos como "Only The Young", "Stone in Love", "Lights", "Open Arms" e "Wheel in the Sky".

Não puderam faltar os sucessos "Faithfully", "Don't Stop Believin’", "Anyway You Want It", "Who’s Crying Now", "Keep on Runnin'", "Mother, Father", "City of Hope", "Lights" e "Open Arms".

Iron Maiden @ Estadio do Morumbi / São Paulo Brasil - 26'mar'2011

Iron Maiden abre turnê Brasileira em São Paulo, com público de 50mil pessoas

Após a ultima vinda ao Brasil em 2009, com um público de mais de 60mil fãs, Iron Maiden abriu a Turne Brasileira de seu novo trabalho "The Final Frontier" para cerca de 50 mil pessoas em São Paulo na noite de sábado 26 de março de 2011.

Em sua nona passagem pelo Brasil, Iron Maiden fez uma apresentação magnifica, com direito a efeitos, fogos, e Eddie passeando pelo palco e dando uma palhinha com sua guitarra.

A escolha do set list fez a diferenca, contendo não só clássicos, como músicas mais recentes desde o retorno de Bruce em 1999 e canções novas álbum "The Final Frontier", o 15o. de sua carreira.

Bruce arriscou algumas palavras em português e fez brincadeiras com o publico, além de manter o pique durante as 2 horas de show, junto a Janick Gers, Steve Harris, Dave Murray e Adrian Smith, correndo de um lado para o outro no palco.

Em um momento, Bruce fez uma homenagem ao Japao e a Libia, e tambem citou seus fãs ao redor do mundo.

Afirmou que não é a última turne da banda e prometeu que na próxima, voltara ao Brasil: "Ainda vamos nos ver!"

SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL 2010

A pacata cidade de Sölvesborg, situada ao sul da Suécia, torna-se, na primeira quinzena de junho, a capital mundial do Rock, já que é sede do melhor festival de Rock do mundo: o Sweden Rock Festival!

A 19° edição do festival, ocorrida de 09 a 12 de junho, marcou mais uma vez pelo ecletismo do cast e nomes de peso marcaram presença. Neste ano, tivemos como headliners os norte-americanos do Guns N’ Roses divulgando o polêmico Chinese Democracy e os gigantes do Aerosmith, que, recentemente, também estiveram envolvidos em polêmica quanto à possível saída do vocalista Steven Tyler da banda. E como se dois pesos pesados não bastassem, o festival reservou uma carta na manga: o irlandês Gary Moore fazendo um set list baseado na sua fase Hard Rock.

Cientes de que apenas headliners de peso não bastam, o cast contou com outros grandes nomes do Rock/ Metal para manter o alto nível do festival. U.D.O.,Slayer, Cinderella, Bachman & Turner, Billy Idol, W.A.S.P., entre tantos outros, não deixaram a peteca cair e trouxeram a agitação necessária durante os quatro dias de festival.

Como nas últimas nove edições, mais uma vez, todos os ingressos foram vendidos em um total de 33000 pagantes. Novamente a ótima infra-estrutura do festival não deixou a desejar, trazendo todo o conforto necessário para esta verdadeira maratona do Metal.

Como novidade, a antiga tenda (Gibson Stage) foi dividida em dois palcos menores, o Rockklassiker Tent (onde ocorreriam shows acústicos) e o Nemis Tent (que contaria com bandas emergentes da cena sueca) e o Zeppelin Stage foi renomeado de Dio Stage, uma justa homenagem ao já saudoso Ronnie James Dio. Os demais palcos – Festival, Rock e Sweden – permaneceram exatamente como nos anos anteriores.

Como ponto negativo, a chuva durante os quatro dias de festival castigou bastante e tirou este que vos escreve do sério por diversas vezes!

Mas vamos ao que interessa: Rock N’ Roll!

DIA 09/06/2010 – AQUECIMENTO

O primeiro dia no Sweden Rock Festival é conhecido como Warm Up (aquecimento), pois conta com um número menor de bandas e os dois maiores palcos - Festival e Rock – permanecem fechados com shows ocorrendo nos demais palcos.

Após a retirada das credenciais e de gastar algumas coroas suecas em CDs, DVDs e camisetas, pontualmente às 15:30h, me posicionei em frente ao Dio Stage para acompanhar a banda vencedora da “Batalha das bandas tributo”, oHeart Attack, que obviamente homenageia o Heart. A carismática vocalista Martina Edoff e a guitarrista Miam Tern representam muito bem as irmãs Wilsonem termos visuais e musicais. E que show bacana! Obviamente não faltaram os clássicos All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You, If Looks Could Kill, What About Love e a obrigatóriaBarracuda.

Após o Heart cover, era hora de conferir os suecos doF.K.Ü. – Freddy Krueger’s Underwear ou Cueca do Freddy Krueger se vc preferir – e, apesar do hilário nome, esses suecos, que tocam fantasiados como o personagem da série Pesadelo em Elm Street, fazem um Thrash Metal no melhor estilo Exodus e os destaques vão para as músicas do seu último lançamento, o maravilhoso Where Moshers Dwell, com destaque absoluto para a própria faixa título que fez todos baterem cabeça. Excelente banda ficando a dica para quem não conhece.

Após essa aula de Thrash Metal, era hora do Metal Tradicional, mais uma vez no Dio Stage, com os suecos do Steelwing. Com um som bastante calcado em Iron Maiden, a banda, muito boa tecnicamente, não empolgou com as músicas do seu debut, destacando-seHeadhunter e The Nightwatcher. Apenas razoável.

Mais um breve intervalo para alimentação e rumei para o Sweden Stage para checar o show do Michael Monroe, ex-vocalista do Hanoi Rocks e novamente em carreira solo. Um bom show com o vocalista agitando muito apesar de não empolgar tanto. Os destaques vão para The Boulevard of Broken Dreamse Not Fakin’ It. Como definiu um colega, trata-se de “muito do mesmo” devido à impressionante similaridade entre muitas das músicas. Um bom entretenimento.

Na sequência teria pela frente o primeiro (e único) show acústico do festival: oWarrior Soul. Particularmente não entendo como ainda podem existir shows nesse formato. Simplesmente não funciona e, para piorar, o som estava muito alto e embolado. Uma banda com tantos hits teria feito um fantástico show elétrico. Mesmo assim, os destaques vão para Love Destruction e Downtown e a ausência da obrigatória Herono set deixou uma sensação de vazio ao término do show.

Por fim, era hora da atração principal da noite: os alemães do U.D.O. E que espetáculo!

Baseando o set na sua carreira solo, o carismático baixinho Udo Dirkschneider desfilou clássicos como Holy,Mastercutor, Animal House,The Bullet and the Bombentremeados aos clássicos do Accept. E não faltaram Midnight Mover, Metal Heart, Princess of the Dawn, Balls to the Wall, I’m a Rebel e Fast as a Shark. Um dos destaques do festival! Fim do primeiro round. Hora de voltar ao hotel para algumas poucas horas de descanso.

DIA 10/06/2010 – SEGUNDO DIA

O segundo dia de festival já começaria a mil por hora com os americanos doStone Sour. Para quem não sabe, o Stone Sour começou como um projeto paralelo do vocalista Corey Taylor do Slipknot, que conta também com outro membro desta banda, o guitarrista James Root. Um certo clima de incerteza pairava no ar quanto à realização deste show em função da trágica morte do baixista do Slipknot Paul Grey duas semanas antes do festival. Mostrando um profissionalismo acima do comum, o Stone Sour não só honrou os compromissos de sua agenda como literalmente quebrou tudo em cima do palco! Baseando o set no maravilhoso album Come What(Ever) May, a banda manteve o público na mão do início ao fim do show. Corey Taylor é um excepcional frontman e as músicas em si são muito boas. Não poderiam faltar as fantásticas Reborn,Made of Scars, Your God e o grande hitThrough Glass, além de duas novas músicas novas, que estarão presentes no próximo lançamento da banda – Audio Secrecy – previsto para setembro deste ano. Um dos destaques do festival!

Pouco antes do término do show do Stone Sour, rumei para a Nemis Tent para conferir o Hard Rock do Mama Kin. Promovendo o excelente debut In the City, os suecos dominaram o palco e contaram com bom apoio do público na execução de Supeman,Too Much e da própria faixa-título. Os destaques vão para o vocalista e guitarrista Ward, que tem um timbre de voz semelhante ao de Paul Stanley do Kiss. Completam a banda o guitarrista Elias, o baixista Jon e o baterista Edwin. Ótimo show!

Após o Mama Kin, a emoção tomou conta deste pobre mortal, pois um antigo sonho estava prestes a se realizar no Dio Stage: era hora doTreat! O Treat é uma banda sueca de Hard Rock dos anos oitenta que tem um som similar ao Europe e que estava afastada dos palcos há algum tempo. Após o lançamento do excelenteCoup de Grace, a banda retornou com tudo aos palcos e fez um estupendo show! O set foi baseado no seu mais recente lançamento, com destaques para We Own the Night, The War is Over, Papertiger e Skies of Mongolia, mesclado a antigos clássicos comoConspiracy, Get You on the Run e World of Promises. Destaques para o monstruoso baterista Jamie Borger (ex - Talisman) e o vocalista Robert Ernlund. Top 5 do festival!

Após esse massacre chamado Treat, corri pra o Sweden Stage para assistir a mais um ícone do Hard Rock dos anos 80: os americanos do Y&T. Promovendo o bomFacemelter, a banda fez um set abrangendo todas as fases da carreira, destacando-se Black Tiger, Meanstreak, Forever e Eyes of a Stranger. Vale ressaltar, também, a homenagem feita pela banda a Ronnie James Dio com o cover de Rainbow in the Dark com Dave Meniketti literalmente imitando a voz de Dio. Como ponto negativo, a chuva castigava bastante e ainda castigaria mais durante o dia!

Fim do Y&T e tive de fazer a primeira escolha do festival:Death Angel ou Pretty Maids? Apesar de adorar as duas bandas, optei pela segunda. Substituindo de última hora o Ratt, que cancelou toda a turnê européia em função da cirurgia do vocalista Stephen Pearcy, os dinamarqueses do Pretty Maids fizeram um show perfeito. Promovendo o estupendo Pandemonium, os membros remanescentes da formação original Ronnie Atkins (vocal) e Ken Hammer(guitarrista) puseram fogo no palco principal do festival e agradaram em cheio aos fãs mais antigos com clássicos Back to Back, Love Games, Queen of Dreams,Red, Hot and Heavy,Scream; os fãs mais recentes vibraram ao escutar Pandemonium,I.N.V.U., Little Drops of Heaven e Wake Up to the Real World. Na minha humilde opinião, o segundo melhor show do festival!

Sem tempo para respirar e com a chuva pairando sobre a cabeça, literalmente corri para o Dio Stage para pegar a meia hora final doBlackberry Smoke. Southern Rock de muita qualidade, a banda conquistou o público sueco com simplicidade, simpatia e obviamente muita competência. Destaques para Sanctified Woman eFreedom Song.

Após breve descanso, era hora do Inferno na Terra no Festival Stage: Slayer! Um dos quatro grandes do Thrash Metal americano estreava no Sweden Rock promovendo o ótimo World Painted Blood. O Slayer sempre faz ótimos shows apesar da pífia interação da banda com os fãs durante o espetáculo; soma-se a isso o fato do baixista e vocalista Tom Araya não poder agitar mais durante as músicas em função de uma placa na coluna cervical, o showpoderia ser classificado como frio. Mas as músicas fazem toda a diferença e clássicos como South of Heaven, Rainning Blood,Angel of Death, Hell Awaits eSeasons in the Abyssfizeram o público delirar. Destaque para o fenomenal baterista Dave Lombardo que faz parecer com que os demais membros sirvam apenas de acompanhamento para ele destruir o seu kit!

Hora de mais uma escolha: Jorn ou Danzig? Optei pelo vocalista norueguês e me dei mal! Adoro a carreira solo do Jorn, além das bandas pelas quais ele passou como Masterplan, Vagabond, Beyond Twilight, Millenium, The Snakes e o projeto Allen/Lande, mas o show em si deixou muito a desejar. A começar pela falta de presença de palco do vocalista que, apesar de cantar muito, permanece estático o tempo todo sem secomunicar com o público. Em segundo lugar o set não ajudou baseado única e exclusivamente em sua carreira solo em função da gravação de um DVD oficial. E por fim, a ausência da música mais esperada do festival – Song for Ronnie James – deixou a todos muito desapontados. A grande decepção do festival!

Enquanto no palco principal o Aerosmithfazia um show repleto de hits das FMs, optei por ver o Mayhem e uma palavra define o que senti durante o show: medo!

Liderados pelo carismático vocalista Attila Csihar, que estava vestido como um padre demoníaco e portando uma forca em mãos durante o espetáculo, o Mayhemdestilou todo o seu ódio cristão em faixas como Pagan Fears, Illuminate Eliminatee De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Um bom show com destaque para o extremamente rápido baterista Hellhammer que já passou pelo Dimmu Borgir. Fim do segundo tempo. Hora de recarregar as baterias!

11/06/2010 – TERCEIRO DIA

O dia já começava chuvoso e um pouco mais frio em relação às duas primeiras jornadas, mas a adrenalina já estava a mil, pois a maratona de ótimos shows continuaria por mais dois dias.

A primeira atração do dia seria o ótimo Bigelf, oriundo da ensolarada Califórnia. O Bigelf é uma banda com quase 20 anos de existência e seria bem definido como uma mistura de Beatles e Black Sabbath. Parece estranho? Soa muito bem!

Liderados pelo inconfundível vocalista e também tecladista Damon Fox, o Bigelf nos brindou com uma ótima retrospectiva de sua carreira englobando músicas de seus três álbuns de estúdio, dando maior ênfase ao mais recente lançamento, o excepcional Cheat the Gallows. Estranho foi o fato de eles não incluírem o maior hit do album, a obrigatória Money, It’s Pure Evil.Destaques para Evils of Rock N’ Roll, Hydra eMoney Machine. Um excelente aquecimento para o que estava por vir!

Debaixo de uma garoa chata, rumei para o palco principal para conferir uma das atrações mais esperadas do festival: o Michael Schenker Group, em turnê de comemoração aos 30 anos de banda.

A formação da banda foi praticamente a mesma que passou por terras tupiniquins em meados de 2009, exceção a um irreconhecível Chris Glen no baixo. O set list também foi muito parecido com o apresentado por aqui com destaque para as obrigatóriasReady to Rock, On and On, Into the Arena, Cry for the Nations e Attack of the Mad Axeman. Vale ressaltar a ótima fase vivida por Michael Schenker que, tocou muito, interagiu bastante com o público e ainda mostrou muito bom humor em uma concorrida tarde de autógrafos algumas horas após o show!

Pausa para o almoço e novamente a postos no Festival Stage para assistir a um dos shows mais aguardados pelo público: Rick Springfield. Este sexagenário australiano, que também é ator, tem um Grammy em sua carreira pela música Jessie’s Girl. Contando como uma excelente banda de apoio, Rick Springfield conquistou o público com os seus inúmeros hits, entre eles Living in Oz, Affair of the Heart, Don’t Talk to Strangers e a já supracitada Jessie’s Girl. Não faltaram músicas de seu mais recente lançamento Venus in Overdrive com destaque para What’s Victoria’s Secret? Um show para ficar na memória!

Hora de mais uma escolha: Magnum ouSteel Panther?

Rumei para o Sweden Stage para assistir aos americanos do Steel Panther. Há quem torça o nariz para este tipo de sátira, mas é fato que a banda tem ótimos músicos, entre eles Russ Parish, que já tocou com Rob Halford no Fight. Completam o time o baterista Stix Zadinia (Darren Leader), o baixista Lexxi Foxxx (Travis Haley) e o vocalista Michael Starr (Ralph Saenz). As letras maliciosas com alto teor sexual associadas à performance nadaconvencional da banda – o baixista Lexxi Foxxx arrumando a maquiagem com um espelhinho entre as músicas foi hilário - fez com que o show beirasse à perfeição e até mesmo o cover dos Backstreet Boys I Want it That Wayficou excepcional! Show nota dez com destaque para a pesadíssima Death to All But Metal e o ótimo cover para Kickstart My Heartdo Motley Crue . Fica aqui a dica para quem não conhece o trabalho da banda!

O grande logo atrás do palco já anunciava o que teríamos pela frente: Cinderella no Festival Stage! A banda estava de volta aos palcos após um hiato em função dos problemas na voz de Tom Kiefer e com a formação original. E como é agradável ver e ouvir Jeff LaBar (guitarra), Eric Brittingham (baixo), Fred Coury (bateria) além do já citado Tom Kiefer (vocal e guitarra).Em minha humilde opinião, foi o set list mais perfeito de todo o festival baseado nos três primeiros álbuns (Night Songs,Long Cold Winter e Heartbreak Station). E dá-lhe Somebody Save Me, Night Songs, Nobody’s Fool, The Last Mile, Push Push, Shelter Me e a maravilhosa Don’t Know What You Got (Till It’s Gone). A banda está em ótima forma com grande destaque para Tom Kiefer que parece ter voltado aos velhos tempos! Sonho realizado.

A próxima atração em um Rock Stageabarrotado e com uma tempestade monstro respondia pela alcunha de William Albert Michael Broad. Quem? Obviamente estamos de Billy Idol! Talvez a atração mais rock n’ roll e ao mesmo tempo mais polêmica em um festival como o Sweden Rock mostrou com toda a propriedade como se faz um grande espetáculo! Acompanhado do fiel escudeiro e excepcional guitarrista Steve Stevens e do tecladista Derek Sherinian (ex-Dream Theater), Billy Idol arrasou tocando os grandes sucessos de sua extensa carreira.Não puderam faltar Dancing With Myself,White Wedding, To Be a Lover, Eyes Without a Face e Rebel Yell.Pessoalmente não era fã deBilly Idol antes do show. Posso dizer que tudo mudou após essa aula de Rock N’ Roll! Nota 10 com louvor!

Enfim era chegada a hora do segundo headliner do festival: o irlandês Gary Moore tocando um set baseado em sua fase Hard Rock. A expectativa era enorme, pois faz muito tempo que Gary Moore vem se dedicando à sua outra paixão: o blues.

Contando com uma competentíssima banda de apoio, o irlandês, que também é um excelente vocalista, pôde mostrar toda a sua exímia técnica em clássicos como Over the Hills and Far Away, Military Man,Empty Rooms e a maravilhosa Out in the Fields,não tendo como não lembrar do famoso dueto com o saudoso Phil Lynott do Thin Lizzy. Emoção pura! Talvez o grande equívoco tenha sido a ordem das músicas, pois a trinca final com Still Got the Blues, Walking By Myself eParisienne Walkways levou a temperatura do show lá para baixo com os intermináveis solos de Blues em uma fria madrugada sueca, além da ausência de clássicos do nível de Murder in the Skies, After the War e Victims of the Future deixou certo ar de frustração no ar. Fim de papo no terceiro dia. Faltava o último round!

QUARTO DIA – 12/06/2010

Apesar de fisicamente esgotado, ainda restava um dia inteiro de shows para se deliciar neste último dia de Festivallen. E, exatamente às 13h30min, estava à frente do Festival Stage para acompanhar os americanos do Fates Warning. Talvez os grandes atrativos para este show fossem a formação que gravou o clássico Parallels e o próprio disco em questão sendo tocado quase que na íntegra!Não teve como não se emocionar com Leave the Past Behind, Life in Still Water, Eye to Eye, The Eleventh Hour,Point of View, We Only Say Goodbye, além de outras maravilhosas músicas como A Pleasant Shade of Grey Part III e a megaclássica Through Different Eyes. A banda toda é muito técnica, mas o grande destaque vai para o vocalista Ray Alder, que continua cantando como há 20 anos.

Talvez o ápice de expectativa do festival residisse na próxima banda, ou melhor, no vocalista que subiria ao Rock Stage: Michael Kiske e a sua mais nova banda, o Unisonic, afinal havia 19 anos que Kiske não subia a um palco, desde o fim da Chamaleon Tour com o Helloween. Porém, pouco antes do início do show, veio uma forte chuva com ventos que, literalmente derrubou parte da House Mix, o que de imediato atrasou o início do show! E, até que houvesse total segurança para todos os envolvidos, não se deu o início do espetáculo. Com cerca de quase 30 minutos de atraso, sobem ao palco Dennis Ward e Kosta Zafiriou (baixista e baterista, ambos do Pink Cream 69) e Mandy Meyer (guitarrista ex-Krokus e Cobra) e a lenda viva do Metal Michael Kiske. Esbanjando bom humor com o ótimo público presente e tocando guitarra base, Kiske avisou de antemão que o material a ser executado pela banda seria do projeto AOR Place Vendome, além de uma música nova do Unisonic e duas músicas de um passado muito distante, o que já causou um grande alvoroço entre os fãs! E como continua cantando esse rapaz! Eu me arrepio só de lembrar! Ele simplesmente destruiu cantando temas como Cross the Line, Set me Free, The Setting Sun e My Guardian Angel, todas do Place Vendome. Mas bastou ele anunciar Kids of the Century, do maravilhoso Pink Bubbles Go Ape do Helloween para causar verdadeira histeria entre os fãs! Não teve como controlar as lágrimas, que viraram verdadeiro vexame ao início de A Little Time, do fenomenal Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I. Sonho mais que realizado!

Ainda não acreditando no que tinha acabado de acontecer, rumei para o palco principal para assistir ao Winger. Em promoção ao lançamento do excelenteKarma, a banda fazia o seu único show no continente europeu em 2010. Talvez, por isso, a expectativa era enorme e a banda não decepcionou no palco. O que falar de músicos do gabarito de Kip Winger (baixo e voz), Reb Beach (guitarra), Rod Morgenstein (bateria) e de John Roth (guitarra)?

Foram tocados clássicos de todas as fases, incluindo as obrigatórias Rainbow in the Rose, Headed for a Heartbreak, Easy Come Easy Goe Down Incógnito passando pelas mais novas (e pesadas!) Deal With the Devil e Stone Cold Killer. A grande ausência ficou sendo a megabalada Miles Away, mas nada que pudesse abalar a ótima performance dos americanos.

A curiosidade acerca do Opeth era muito grande, uma vez que a banda vem recebendo rasgados elogios de Mike Portnoy, baterista do Dream Theater. Lógico que os músicos são extremamente técnicos, especialmente o guitarrista Fredrik Akesson (ex-Talisman e Arch Enemy) e o grande mentor por trás do OpethMikaelAkerfeldt (vocais e guitarra). Para quem não conhece, o Opeth é uma banda de Death Metal e Metal Progressivo que alterna vocais limpos e vocais urrados. Um show nada convencional por sinal, que já começou com a baladaWindowpane para, na seqüência cair na pancadaria de The Grand Conjuration e Lotus Eater, os grandes destaques do show, que encerrou com Blackwater Park. Um bom show.

Hora de mais um show histórico: Bachman & Turner juntos após um hiato de 19 anos! E que emoção ver os já senhores Randy Bachman e Fred Turner em ação, desfilando verdadeiros hinos do Classic Rock. Não puderam faltar as maravilhosas Hey You,Takin’ Care of Business e You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet. Um excelente show!

Sabe aquele ditado que diz que o melhor vem sempre no final? Pois é, ele pôde ser aplicado ao show do W.A.S.P. Apesar do clima de desconfiança que pairava sobre a banda em função dos acontecimentos em Curitiba e São Paulo em abril deste ano, Blackie Lawless e companhia simplesmente quebraram tudo. Com um set baseado nos dois primeiros lançamentos da banda (WASP e The Last Command), a banda pôde executar temas obscuros e até mesmo nunca tocados como The Torture Never Stops, The Last Command, Hellion, Widowmaker eSleeping (in the Fire), mesclados a músicas obrigatórias como L.O.V.E. Machine, On Your Knees, Wild Child, I Wanna Be Somebody, The Idol, Chainsaw Charlie e Blind in Texas e as novas Crazy e Babylon’s Burning. Era nítida a felicidade no rosto de cada headbanger em um abarrotado Rock Stage. Disparado o melhor show do festival!

Após essa aula de Hard Rock com o W.A.S.P., ainda faltava o principal headliner do festival, o Guns N’ Roses, mas a falta de pernas e o atraso de mais de 50 minutos de Axl Rose me fizeram desistir e encerrar o meu Sweden Rock Festival de forma antecipada.

Teremos a vigésima edição do festival em junho de 2011 e os boatos dão conta de uma edição mais do que especial; mas será que dá para ser mais especial do que foi nos últimos dezenove anos?

Sweden Rock Festival 2010 - day 2 - part 1: emotions

Well, it was not a very easy thing to go back and forth to the festival this year because the Shuttle Bus that on the past years would take us to and back from the park was not running.

Yesterday I had a very hard time with the train, so I decided to get a taxi O.O yes, i know that would be expensive but i had no choice.

A wonderful thing happened, though. It is very flattering to know that we leave our marks by a small gesture we make.

I dont need to say here that I love to travel, I love to know places, different cultures, people, listen to different languages. And I like to talk with people that I meet on my way. I believe that God never leaves us alone, even if we are on our own and He put people on our way for a reason.

So, I was talking with the taxi driver along the ride to the park and he was amazed that I was from Brazil and at some point he told me that a couple of years ago he gave a ride to a "journalist from Brazil" and coincidentally she was staying in Kristiansdad.

I got surprised and went on with the conversation and by looking more to the driver, I found his face familiar. Yes, that "journalist" he was talking about was ME :)... I got moved and I even cried of joy because I never thought I was going to be remembered. Then we laughed and we recollect some things from the previous year and it was such a great moment I had. Specially because I was all alone there, and to meet someone "known" is a very great thing when we are in a foreign land.

That made the ride run pretty fast and when I got at the park, with a big smile on my face, I gave the driver a hug and went on my way to the festival!

The weather was pretty bad, that thin rain that never stops and so much colder that the other year.

I was supposed to meet my friend photographer from Sweden so I headed to the press area.

There he was! Another joy to my day!

We got all the equipment ready, stored whatever we would not need in the lockers, and went for the day!

I wanted to meet my friends Nicke, Lilly, Sack and the kids, which I wasnt able to do at the first day of the festival because their shop is always located at the main stage area, the one which opens on the second day.

Per and I went walking in search of Lilly and Sack shop and finally I found it.

It was not very easy because I got a news that broke my heart! As I got there and I saw Lilly, she came and hugged me and started to cry. She said she was happy to see me but she had bad news. Sack, her husband, who was such a great heart sweet person had been on a motorcycle accident and passed away.

Oh MY GOD! Yes, OH MY GOD!.... Got speechless! And I felt a tin of cold water being thrown on the top of my head!

All I wanted to do was carry my friend and try to comfort her but all I did was cry. I could not stop my tears, and I know that I should comfort her but I could not stop from crying.

I wish I could stay all the time there with her, but I really needed to work. But everytime I could have a break, I would go back to her shop and stay with her.

Sweden Rock Festival - Day1 (cont.)

The first day of the festival is mostly focused on new bands during the day and the best bands perform in the evening.

It was set up with 6 (six) stages: Festival Stage, Rock Stage, Sweden Stage, Dio Stage for homage of Ronnie James Dio, RockKlassiker Stage and Nemis Tent. However, the Festival and Rock Stages are opened only from the second day on.

The concerts happened pretty much simultaneously which would make it possible to run from one to another to catch the 3 first songs, what they allow us to photograph from the photopit.

After having Sator, Alestorm, F.K.U, Hellspray, and the wonderful London Quireboys (among others), UDO went onstage to close the night.

After the last concert, heading to the bus area to go back to Kristianstad.

Ready to charge all the batteries and download all the memory cards? Not really, actually ready to sleep but the work didn't finish.

Sweden Rock Festival - Day1

I woke up really early and was excited to what was to come.
I was a little concerned because, as said before, the bus who would go from the train station to the park was not gonna run this time. So i would have to find a way to go back and forth all the 4 days.

After breakfast and all, i headed the train station.

The weather changed and it was cold, very cold, windy and rainy. Not very good for all the photo equipment i was carrying, specially because something wrong happened at the train track and the train was delayed. I believe i stood there for about one hour waiting for the train. Fortunately the first day of the festival is a bit slower than the others.

Well, the train arrived and after about 30 minutes we got to Solvesborg and from there there was a bus to the park. Amazing! I love that rock'n'roll environment!!!

First thing to do, find the accreditation area to get my photopass and photovest. Then, find the press area to leave part of the equipment. Finally, photograph!!!

Sweden Rock Festival - Day 0

Well... after a long flight, and long hours of sleep (i was pretty tired from work back home and all the stress "pre trip" that one bottle of wine in the plane dinner was enough to make me "dream"), i got in Copenhagen airport and from there, took the train to Kristianstad. I recognized everything in the surroundings, but i did not remember that the hotel was so close to the train station.

After all set at the hotel, i went out for a walk and for some photographs around town.

That was my first shock of the trip: the camera i sent to the maintenance to get sensor cleaned came back with the shutter out of order. I got kinda desperate because i would have 15 days ahead to photograph and the camera was not working properly.

I had thought of detaching the camera grip to make it smaller but for my luck, i let it on. The grip shutter was working and i would have to manage that way.

Well, anyway... there was nothing else i could do. So, relaxed!

I met some Brazilians who oftenly go to SRF and after some walk and something to eat i went back to the hotel.

Time to get all equipment ready for the first day of Sweden Rock Festival.

it was Monday morning and i was still packing up to take the flight in the afternoon to Sweden.

I went to the photo camera assistance company to get the two cameras i was taking with me to get sensor cleaned.

it would take about an hour so i would be ok.

after doing all that i needed, my friend came pick me up to take me to the airport.

i was excited but not as much as in the first time i went to cover Sweden Rock Festival. I was worried about some personal stuff and it didnt let me get 110% into the festival mood. Anyway, i was going to spend 5 days in Sweden, then i would go to Paris and afterwards to Heilo, Holland to stay a couple of days with a friend and photograph his band. WTF i should be reaaaaaally excited. But this personal thing was not letting me.

Ter uma banda é o sonho de 99% dos fãs de rock’n’roll em geral. É como um relacionamento com inúmeros altos e baixos, mudanças repentinas de humor, crises de vaidade e narcisismo além de tudo o mais que pode vir junto nesse pacote. Fazer parte de uma banda é relativamente fácil, o difícil mesmo é conviver com ela por um período da vida. Alguns grupos duram poucos anos, outros duram muitos, mas com inúmeras mudanças de formação... Agora imagine um grupo com mais de quarenta anos de estrada e trinta e nove com exatamente a mesma formação. Isso, por si só, já é um fato notabilíssimo!!!

Essa apresentação dos texanos do ZZ Top foi seguramente uma das mais aguardadas e, provavelmente uma das mais memoráveis do ano. Fãs de todas as idades se aglomeravam em frente ao Via Funchal aguardando a apresentação do trio de sexagenários.

A abertura ficou a cargo do guitarrista roqueiro e cantor de música sertaneja Hudson Cadorini que juntamente com a banda Rollemax fez um repertório basicamente dividido em duas partes. A primeira instrumental com músicas de seu primeiro disco solo como Fat Riff In D, Turbination Locomotrox, Violência Armada Pt 1 e a segunda com covers de ícones do estilo, como Highway Star (Deep Purple), Mr Brownstone (Guns n Roses), Come Together (Beatles) entre outras.

A apresentação agradou aos presentes e o único ponto fraco foi a execução de Poison do Alice Cooper. Essa música costuma ser uma armadilha, a original tem muitos efeitos que são característicos, isso sem falar na, praticamente inimitável, voz de Alice, fatores que complicam e muito a vida de qualquer músico (por melhor que seja) que deseje tocá-la...

Após um intervalo considerável e com casa lotada, era a hora de um dos trios mais celebrados da história do rock subir ao palco. A sensação era que o tempo havia parado. Lá estavam Billy Gibbons (guitarra e voz), Dusty Hill (baixo e voz) e Frank Beard (bateria) com suas barbas, roupas e óculos escuros característicos, tocando o melhor do blues/rock. A primeira música foi Got Me Under Pressure, seguida de Waiting For The Bus e a maravilhosa Jesus Just Left Chicago. Uma carreira com tamanha longevidade tem suas vantagens e o entrosamento entre os músicos é fantástico, um absurdo que poucas vezes presenciei. Era como se o palco fosse a casa deles e todo o resto do público fosse uma espécie de visita.

O público delirava com o repertório, cantava junto, reproduzia as dancinhas da dupla, muito bem humorada, Gibbons/Hill.

O repertório seguiu com Pincushion, I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide, Future Blues, Rock Me Baby, Cheap Sunglasses, etc. Um dos pontos altos do show, foi o cover de Hey Joe do mitológico guitarrista Jimi Hendrix, não porque é uma música conhecida, mas pela interpretação dada pelo trio. Interpretação talvez seja a palavra que melhor defina a apresentação... Não é o que se toca, mas como se toca!!!! Mais clássicos para alegria dos presentes: Brown Sugar, Party On The Pátio, Just Got Paid, Gimme All Your Lovin (com o refrão cantado em uníssono pela galera), Sharp Dressed Man, Legs e a divertidíssima Viva Las Vegas.

La Granje e Tush encerraram de forma primorosa a apresentação. Literalmente satisfação garantida. Um show impressionante e, para quem presenciou, uma prova cabal de que rock n roll não tem idade...

Enquanto esperava o fluxo de pessoas diminuir para sair do local, não pude deixar de notar um pequeno alvoroço causado por uma intrépida dupla vestida a caráter (com barba e tudo...) que por onde ia atraia a atenção das câmeras fotográficas. Muito bom!!!

A fotógrafa Pati Patah comenta sobre a apresentação do dia 21/05: “O show foi praticamente igual ao de quinta-feira, até a piadinha no palco foi a mesma. A única diferença é que foi com mesas na pista e, apesar de ser uma segunda noite de show, estava relativamente cheio.”

Festa luxuosa na noite do blues no Via Funchal. Um público de aproximadamente três mil pessoas acomodadas confortavelmente preparava-se para assistir ao vivo, pela primeira em solo brasileiro, a “lenda viva” em uma única apresentação na capital paulista.

Natural do Mississipi e crescido no Estado da Estrela Solitária (nota: não tem nada a ver com o Botafogo do Rio!), Winter começou sua carreira ainda garoto ao lado do irmão mais novo Edgar Winter.

A exemplo de outros artistas de idade avançada, a banda de Johnny, contando com o grande guitarrista Paul Nelson entra sozinha no palco para abrir caminho, aguardando a figura principal. Após esta breve introdução, aparece a estrela, imediatamente ovacionada. Encaminha-se então para o assento com o apoio de sua equipe, onde seu instrumento de trabalho o aguarda.

Terrivelmente abatido podemos comprovar que o talento do músico encontra-se intacto; sua voz continua perfeita e sua técnica com a guitarra persiste muito apurada.

Levando-se em consideração que se tratava do primeiro show do genial albino em nossas terras depois de muitos cancelamentos, ele nos presenteou com um repertório abrangente, passando por quase todas as fases de sua carreira, destaques para Good Morning Little School Girl do primeiro álbum pela Columbia, Red House do Hendrix, Bonie Moronie e Hide Away também fizeram parte do espetáculo.

Precariamente sai do palco, de novo acompanhado de sua equipe, retornando sem demora para um fenomenal bis no fim do qual foi aplaudido de pé por todos os presentes.

Depois do show fomos ao camarim e pudemos presenciar que seu vício em heroína cobrou-lhe um preço muito alto. Com sessenta e seis anos de idade se encontra em um lamentável estado de debilitação. Atendeu a todos enquanto teve condição, em seguida foi levado por seus companheiros ao veículo, que o aguardava, sobre uma cadeira de rodas.

Um momento singular e inesquecível para um fã e amante de música, presenciando um show de admirável talento. Dificilmente haverá outra chance como essa.

O mês de maio já entrou definitivamente no calendário do paulistano como a época da Virada Cultural, evento que durante vinte e quatro horas reúne uma infinidade de atrações dos mais variados gêneros e estilos. Do samba de raiz à música eletrônica, passando por todas as vertentes culturais, o evento atraiu milhares de pessoas.

A ROCK BRIGADE dedicou-se à cobertura das apresentações voltadas ao palco do rock, na Avenida São João e deu uma passadinha pelo show do Living Colour.

De cara, é importante destacar que a mudança do palco do rock, anteriormente na Praça da República, foi muito bem vinda. Além de facilitar o acesso, ficou mais espaçoso para quem quisesse assistir!!!

A primeira banda a subir no palco do Rock foi a GrandMothers Re: Invented que nada mais é que uma reedição do grande Mothers Of Invention, banda que acompanhou o guitarrista Frank Zappa em seu início de carreira. A formação que se apresentou aqui, contava com Napoleon Murphy Brock (sax, flauta e voz), Don Preston (teclado e voz), Roy Estrada (baixo e voz), Miroslav Tadic (guitarra) e Chris Garcia (bateria e voz). Não é preciso destacar a qualidade desses instrumentistas, levando em consideração que, para executar os arranjos complicadíssimos criados pelo falecido guitarrista, o músico tem que ser no mínimo muito bom!!!! É muito interessante notar que eles ainda mantêm toda a ironia e o sarcasmo (inteligente) das apresentações de trinta anos atrás, o que agradou em cheio aos “Zappamaníacos” espremidos na grade e ao público de uma maneira geral. Montana, Peaches En Regalia, Little House I Used To Live In, entre outras, fizeram a felicidade dos fãs.

Na seqüência, outro baluarte dos anos sessenta, o Big Brother & The Holding Co., mais conhecido como a banda que acompanhava a saudosa Janis Joplin. Com os originais Sam Andrew (guitarra), Dave Getz (bateria) e Peter Albin (baixo), desfilaram clássicos e mais clássicos, levando a galera ao delírio. Me And Bobby McGee, Summertime e principalmente Piece Of My Heart agitaram muito e, justiça seja feita, Janis é uma lenda, mas a cantora Sophia Ramos foi simplesmente maravilhosa. Suas interpretações foram muito felizes.

Ícone do rock’n’roll nacional, a Patrulha do Espaço fez um show bastante enérgico. Dessa vez, o motivo era especial – a banda estava comemorando os trinta anos do famoso álbum preto e fez um show misturando músicas principalmente dessa época com outras que faziam um apanhado de toda a carreira do grupo: Arrepiado, Óvnis, Robô, Colômbia e Sexy Sua foram algumas das músicas que mais agitaram a platéia, muitos dos quais estavam tendo um primeiro contato com o som do Patrulha. O batera Junior merece ser destacado pela importância que tem como músico dentro do cenário rock nacional e também por estar em plena forma “destruindo” na bateria.

Enquanto o palco era preparado para os americanos do LA Guns, ocorreu o primeiro grande incidente da noite. Um imbecil atirou uma garrafa de vidro da platéia para a área de imprensa, atingindo em cheio a cabeça de uma segurança que imediatamente foi socorrida. Não dá pra entender o que se passa na cabeça de um infeliz como esse. As pessoas estão lá para se divertir e os repórteres, fotógrafos e seguranças estão simplesmente trabalhando, cumprindo seu dever. Lamentável...

Felizmente esse incidente não atrapalhou o LA Guns, que deu uma aula de hard rock, com um repertório que contou com muitos clássicos como Eletric Gypsy, One More Reason, The Ballad Of Jayne, The Bitch Is Back, Over The Edge e No Mercy, além de músicas inéditas como The Sign e Three Times. Todas essas músicas foram muito bem recebidas pela platéia, mas agradaram mesmo, quando tocaram Knocking On Heavens Door, do Bob Dylan, ironicamente popularizada em terras tupiniquins pela ex-banda do guitarrista Trace G, o Guns N’Roses... Assim como o Patrulha, o LA Guns certamente saiu dali com muitos fãs a mais!!!

Já eram quase três da manhã quando rumei para o palco que ficava na Praça Júlio Prestes para assistir à apresentação do Living Colour. Muito se falou sobre esse show. Semanas antes, já ouvia comentários ora positivos ora negativos. Alguns comentários mais sarcásticos diziam que quem esteve no último show deles, aqui em São Paulo, jogou dinheiro fora, porque afinal eles estariam tocando gratuitamente agora. Uma verdade deve ser dita. Como muitos fãs, eu estive na última apresentação deles aqui e, exatamente por isso, posso dizer que esses comentários são completamente infundados, justamente porque a banda consegue se reinventar a cada show. Em outras palavras, foram duas apresentações completamente diferentes, tanto no que diz respeito ao set list quanto na execução das músicas. Foi uma dinâmica absurdamente diferente! Desta vez, eles tocaram tudo de uma forma mais cadenciada, menos agressiva, diferente da última vez que estiveram por aqui.

O show começou com Type, seguida de Middle Man e daí caiu para um lado mais intimista, com Desperate People, Funny Vibe, Interlude, The Chair, Decadence, entre outras. A controversa Bi abriu espaço para o solo de bateria de Will Calhoun e aí entra a parte interessante da história. O cara conseguiu a proeza de fazer um solo e colocar todo mundo pra dançar, impressionante!! (Não se vêem mais bateristas assim nos dias de hoje...). Os clássicos foram deixados para o final: Glamour Boys, Love Rears It’s Ugly Head, Time’s Up, Cult Of Personality e Elvis Is Dead, que encerrou o show.

Era o momento de retornar ao palco do rock para conferir a apresentação muito aguardada do Krisiun, que mostrou a que veio, fazendo uma apresentação impecável. O entrosamento entre os irmãos beira o inacreditável. Músicas como Minotaur e Sentenced Morning mostram exatamente esse lado. Infelizmente aí veio a segunda bomba da noite... Após agradecer a presença de todos e dizer que a banda não seria nada sem o público que os apóia até hoje, o vocalista Alex Camargo anunciou a morte do vocalista Ronnie James Dio, uma perda inestimável para o heavy metal. Para homenageá-lo, tocaram um trecho da música Heaven And Hell, clássico do Sabbath imortalizado pela voz de Dio. Outras músicas de destaque foram In League Whith Satan (clássico do Venom), a ótima Kings Of Killing e o clássico Black Force Domain que encerrou a apresentação.

Já havia amanhecido completamente quando o Imbyra subiu ao palco. Para quem não conhece, é a banda do baterista Fabrício Ravelli, que tocou no Harppia, também no Scars e depois se aventurou nos EUA tocando com uma das lendas do thrash metal, o Hirax. Foi uma pena que muitas pessoas já tinham ido embora, muito provavelmente pelo cansaço. A apresentação foi baseada no primeiro trabalho I Now Proclaim. Fabrício mostrou que além de tudo é um bom front man, tocando guitarra.

O Imbyra também marcou o fim da apresentação das bandas mais pesadas. O público que chegava para ver as próximas atrações era ligeiramente diferente do que até então circulava por lá. Era chegada a hora das bandas nacionais. A cantora Pitty foi a primeira a se apresentar e fez um repertório que agradou bastante quem estava por ali assistindo. Músicas como: Medo, Água Contida, Máscara, Equalize, Admirável Chip Novo, Me Adora e o cover de Another Brick In The Wall, do Pink Floyd, agitaram bastante a galera para a próxima banda, o CPM 22, que fez um set tributo aos Ramones. Apostar na popularidade do grupo americano foi um tiro certeiro... A receptividade a hinos como Blitzkrieg Bop, Rock n Roll High School, Psycho Therapy veio de encontro com a necessidade adolescente de extravasar e exorcizar seus demônios.

Outra banda que soube tirar proveito disso foi o Raimundos. Fazia muito tempo que não os via ao vivo e fiquei bastante satisfeito com a energia que a banda ainda é capaz de gerar. O “novo” vocalista, Tico Santa Cruz, segurou muito bem a onda, principalmente em clássicos como O Pão da Minha Prima, Rapante, A Mais Pedida (com a participação de Pitty), Mulher de Fases, Esporrei na Manivela e Eu Quero Ver o Oco!

Já passavam das 15:30 quando o ex-Titã Arnaldo Antunes iniciou seu show. Compositor muito criativo, com uma performance bastante peculiar, apresentou um repertório interessante com músicas como Invejoso, Consumado, Longe, Vou Festejar. Assisti-lo é sempre uma experiência no mínimo curiosa.

Finalmente era chegada a hora da última banda dessa maratona e com uma Avenida São João lotada, os Titãs (agora com um novo baterista, Mário Fabre) encerraram a Virada Cultural. Pra quem já conhece a banda desde os anos oitenta, foi muito bom relembrar clássicos como Diversão, Flores, Bichos Escrotos, Cabeça Dinossauro, O Pulso (com Arnaldo Antunes), Polícia, Homem Primata, AA UU, Marvin, Televisão, entre tantos outros.

Agora é esperar pelo ano que vem, e torcer para que a organização continue mantendo o nível, trazendo cultura para um número cada vez maior de pessoas

When I say things are totally upside down, the are really upside down.
I remember those times when the media was invited to cover events because the promoters really respected the important role of the media.

Nowadays, things are funny! They think they are doing us a favour to let us in to photograph or write about the event and publish in the media.

They dont hire professionals anymore, they let their friends do our job because this way they dont have to pay any money.

There are many promoters in the market who do that and I have gone through this a couple of times because they like my work but they dont want to pay for that.

Im tired of saying that I love what I do for the profession. I dont go to concerts to enjoy the music! I go to work. I dont really care who is playing and most of the times I dont know the music they are playing, I just know it's rock'n'roll and it matches my personal project of publishing a BOOK.

I dont go to concerts to watch. If Im not photographing, I prefer to stay at home with my dogs and the silent peace. But they dont understand!

Recently i was contacted by one of these promoters who told me he was going to let me work if I gave him a cd with all the material! Jesus!!!! Does that mean that now I have to "pay comission" with my work to be able to work??? Anyway, as i refused because i'm not a "whore" at work, I dont work at his shows anymore and never more...

Tomorrow I am not going to photograph UFO for the magazine which I work for because I was just contacted by them saying that these other promoters will let me in if I give them a cd with all the material. I AM NOT!!!!

This gotta change urgently!

That is funny because they got a friend-photographer to do the job for them, he even has his logo on the flyers and they also want my material??? What does that mean? Do they really like this photographer's work?? Or is he there because he is free of charge?? Why in the hell they did not hire me???

Again, this GOTTA change URGENTLY!!!! These people are KILLING the market!

Ser crítico musical é uma tarefa que demanda alguns esforços. Uma boa resenha é aquela onde o gosto pessoal do redator é deixado de lado em prol de um texto jornalístico honesto, um relato conciso do que foi determinada apresentação. Felizmente esse é um trabalho que propicia algumas surpresas e foi o que aconteceu no show do Placebo. Confesso que fui sem esperar muita coisa e acabei surpreendido com a qualidade, tanto da produção quanto musical da banda.

A abertura foi feita pela Superdose que tocou pra um público pequeno, já que uma boa parte ainda se encontrava fora da casa ou estava entrando.

O Placebo apresentou basicamente o mesmo repertório dos outros shows pelo país, abrindo com For What Its Worth, seguida de Astray Heart, Battle For The Sun e Soulmates. De cara fiquei impressionado com a precisão da banda ao vivo, é de uma coesão absurda.

Apesar de muito pouco comunicativos, o que em nenhum momento atrapalhou a apresentação, já que os fãs pareciam não se importar com isso, o Placebo seguiu com Speak In Tongues, Follow The Cops Back In Home, Every You Every Me (que fez o Credicard Hall cantar e dançar junto), Special Needs, Breathe Underwater e Julien.

Outra coisa que me surpreendeu foi a preocupação com os efeitos. Não existia um backdrop no fundo do palco, mas um grande telão e a cada música uma nova animação era mostrada, contribuindo ainda mais para o clima festivo que estava instaurado.

The Never Ending Why foi outra música que agitou muito, assim como Bright Lights e todas as outras que se seguiram, especialmente Devil In Details. Daí em diante, foi só alegria para os fãs: Meds, Song To Say Goodbye, Special K e The Bitter End, quando a banda se retirou do palco.

Enquanto esperavam a volta do Placebo, o público era entretido com uma animação de gosto duvidoso de uma bailarina que dançava ao som do compositor alemão Mendelssohn...

O grupo rotornou tocando Trigger Happy, Infra Red e Taste In Men que encerrou definitivamente a apresentação.

Um show correto, concebido para agradar aos fãs, mas que ao mesmo tempo mostra que competência independe do estilo escolhido para se expressar.

Com uma legião crescente de fãs pelo Brasil, a Épica se apresentou para um Via Funchal realmente muito cheio, mas não lotado, prova da atual popularidade que a banda encontra por aqui. O séquito de fãs pode ser reconhecido a quilômetros de distância, principalmente pela parcela feminina, notadamente muito maior que a masculina e suas roupas, num estilo gótico moderninho.

A banda capitaneada pelo guitarrista Mark Jansen está promovendo seu novo trabalho Design Your Universe, lançado em 2009, mais um capítulo em busca de uma sonoridade própria, já que a banda é uma das campeãs em colecionar rótulos: Symphonic metal, progressive metal e gothic metal estão entre os principais...

O show começou pontualmente às 22hs, fato que merece destaque!!! Samadhi foi a primeira música, seguida de Resign To Surrender, ambas do novo trabalho. Na sequência vieram Sensorium, Unleashed e Martyr Of The Free World.

O som estava meio embolado, as vezes era realmente difícil entender o que se passava durante as músicas, apenas a voz da vocalista Simone Simons estava muito bem regulada. Está certo que ela é provavelmente a atração da banda, mas não precisavam exagerar!!!

A apresentação seguiu com Fools Of Damnation e The Imperial March (aquela mesmo, tema do Darth Vader de Star Wars), que deve ter deixado o americano John Williams (compositor de trilhas sonoras como Star Wars, E.T – O Extraterrestre, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, entre tantos outros) de cabelos em pé. Não foi uma boa idéia fazer uma versão mais metal do tema. Para compensar o fiasco da música anterior, a banda tocou Seif Al Din, que de longe foi a melhor do show, seguida de Cry For The Moon, Tides Of Time, The Obsessive Devotion e Kingdom Of Heaven .

Após um pequeno intervalo retornaram com Sancta Terra, Quietus e Consign To Oblivion que encerrou definitivamente a apresentação.

Era notável a satisfação estampada nos rostos dos fãs, sinal de que os músicos da Èpica cumpriram muito bem sua missão.

Adendo: cada música tem mais de dez minutos. Em uma matemática simples, somando-se introduções, jam sessions, duelos, e outros excessos de virtuoses, o resultado da apresentação de sexta (19), no Credicard Hall, foram duas horas de prog metal em pura essência. 10 faixas – 6 hits = 4 músicas de “Black Clouds & Silver Linings”, recente álbum do Dream Theater que pontua a tour 2010. Cai o pano e o barba azul [literalmente] Mike Portnoy aparece montado em uma bateria com inumeráveis peças, parecendo um carro medieval de batalha. Mas Portnoy não era novidade. Já havia dado uma canja junto a Damon Fox, vocalista da banda de abertura Bigelf – setenteira até o osso; meso prog rock; meso prog metal; cruzamento entre uma bigorna e um unicórnio alado. Depois de uma introdução com infinitas “dedadas” por segundo sobre cordas, teclas, baquetadas e falsetes ao vento, “A Nightmare to Remember", "A Rite of Passage" e “Hollow Years” gastam lá um quarto do show. É quando a bola é passada para o careca, porém, de cavanhaque invejável, Jordan Rudess. O simpaticíssimo tecladista digladia-se com um mago virtual nos telões. Na sequência, “Prophets of War” desvenda o que os britânicos do Muse andaram escutando antes de montar a banda. “Wither”, outra do novo álbum, prendeu a atenção com projeções de um elefante pintando quadros com a tromba. Provando que cabeludos de costumeira indumentária preta não parecem, mas tem coração. “The Dance of Eternity”, “The Spirit Carries On”, entrecortadas por “One Last Time”, cospem nas regras do tempo e instauram um paradoxo: passam rápidas como um sopro e consomem mais um quarto do show. Engrenagens azeitadas para a catarse na arena, com as geminadas “Pull Me Under”, “Metropolis” e uma nova jam entre o famigerado guitarrista John Petrucci e Jordan Rudess usando um sintetizador portátil. A certa altura do duelo, com o galopar de notas na velocidade da luz, não dava mais para saber que som era expelido de qual instrumento. A situação se repetiu com a cereja do bolo “The Count of Tuscany”. Dividido em quatro, o telão mostrava o sisudo baixista John Myung no mesmo compasso de Petrucci, Rudess e Portnoy. Lapsos nos faziam ver quatro tecladistas no palco. Outra hora, quatro guitarristas. Às vezes baixistas e até bateristas. Hipnose sonora, mensagens subliminares nos amplificadores... talvez!

Formado no início da década de noventa e inspirado pelo misticismo egípcio, o Nile é uma banda que vem conquistando cada vez mais espaço no hall dos grandes grupos do metal extremo mundial. A julgar pelos comentários que ouvi meses antes do show, era de se supor que seria um grande evento, mesmo sendo em uma quinta feira, dia que está se tornando cada vez mais oficial nos calendários de shows de bandas de metal. Infelizmente, esqueceram de avisar isso ao público. É perfeitamente aceitável o fato de que muitos dos potenciais expectadores teriam que trabalhar no dia seguinte e que o horário não ajuda, tendo em vista os constantes atrasos que sempre aconteceram no passado, mas para minha surpresa não aconteceu dessa vez!

A banda de abertura foi a Sangrena que fez um set bastante coeso com destaque para o cover de Rapture do Morbid Angel.

Como anunciado pela produção, pontualmente às 22hs o Nile subiu ao palco. A banda está promovendo o novo álbum Those Whom The Gods Detests e já começou com a excelente Kafir! que, na minha opinião, mostra muito da evolução musical da banda, seguida de Sacrifice Unto Sebek e Hittie Dung Incantantion – o pescoço dos fãs mais fanáticos ficou em frangalhos. Muitas coisas chamaram a atenção nessa apresentação: uma delas, a extrema precisão dos músicos, com destaque para o baterista George Kollias, o cara é uma máquina!!! Ithyphallic, que segundo Dallas Toler-Wade é a melhor música da banda, também foi muito bem recebida pelo público. Na seqüência vieram Execration Text, Papyrus Containing The Spell To Preserve Its Possessor Against Attacks From He Who Is In The Water, 4th Arra Dagon – pra mim, a melhor música de toda a apresentação – e Permiting The Noble Dead To Descend To The Underworld.

O público, muito pequeno, não parava de agitar e era notável que a banda estava feliz com a receptividade. Dallas agradeceu várias vezes ao público brasileiro e o guitarrista Karl Sanders não parava de sorrir. A bem da verdade, mais parecia um show fechado, desses feitos exclusivamente para pessoas previamente selecionadas e, seguramente, o primeiro escalão do metal extremo nacional estava bem representado. Se existisse uma revista “Caras” do metal, certamente esse show seria um evento. Era possível encontrar membros de bandas como Krisiun, Torture Squad, Korzus, Claustrofobia, Ocultan, entre outros.

Sarcophagus, Lashed To The Slave Stick e Black Seeds Of Vengeance encerraram o show. Foram onze músicas em pouco mais de uma hora, ou seja, uma verdadeira maratona, um show extremamente direto, muito bom!!!

Mais uma vez a organização merece ser citada no que diz respeito aos horários, um show sem atrasos, o que facilita e muito a vida das pessoas que dependem do transporte público. Que o exemplo seja sempre seguido!!!!
